Volunteers needed for Media Research for river conservation organization

Prairie Rivers Network is looking for volunteers to monitor media sources for stories and information related to river conservation and water quality. Volunteers will perform media research and forward items of interest relating to water quality, water pollution, river conservation, and aquatic ecosystems to Prairie Rivers Network staff.

Some of the specific responsibilities may include:

  • Monitoring web sites for information;
  • collecting copies of articles from newspapers, industry and academic magazines/journals;
  • creating a system for tracking media stories and assemble bibliographies;
  • assisting staff with press releases, media relations; and,
  • performing other media tasks as necessary.
Research information gathered by volunteers will enable Prairie Rivers Network to:
  • Develop a broader network of water quality and river advocates by sharing information with others and informing them of environmental issues;
  • keep Prairie Rivers Network informed on current river conservation and water quality news stories around the state;
  • evaluate effectiveness of press releases of our organization and other groups; and,
  • identify opportunities for Prairie Rivers Network to communicate our message of river conservation and clean water.
Stories uncovered by volunteers may become important water quality issues throughout Illinois. You can make a difference!
